Today I heard about a scam that uses AI to become your OWN FAMILY MEMBERS to gain your trust. The first one I heard about was this story where a mom always takes her daughter to school and then again home. That day, however, her own daughter facetimed her asking to open the door because she came home from school sick. It was her own daughter’s face and voice, but when she double checked and called the school, the school said the daughter was still there! Isn’t that crazy! This means that someone was trying to gain access to her house by faking that it was her daughter. Now, this could all have been a fake story, but the thing that makes me want to believe it is that I’ve heard so many other stories of people’s loved ones calling them, and it turns out to be someone using AI to try to get money or access to their data by pretending to be someone they know! I think the best thing to do in this situation would be to actually see the person in real life, or find a way to triple-check that the person is who they say they are. This has happened to my grandparents… on several occasions. They will send me Facebook reels of outrageous news! How could this be true!!! Well it’s not grandpa. That’s why it’s important to be diligent and not believe everything you see.

I agree with you about not immediatelly believing everything you see! My grandparents both passed, but I feel you since my parents are the ones that send me reels about crazy things going on.

AI is such an interesting yet scary topic, but the fact that some people are using it as a form of “ammunition” in scams and malicious intent is downright horrifying!

AI is so scary when in the wrong people’s hands! Other than that though, I totally agree that AI is just absolutely fascinating!

I heard about this today too! Such a scary idea that this is happening all around us… I wonder if there’s anything that we can do to help minimize this?

It definitely is scary! I think if we all just are aware of things like this then we will be able to minimize it at least for ourselves!
